John P. McFadden is an award winning jewelry designer and a visual artist living in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. I have been an artist and craftsman since early childhood and create art in many different mediums, including oils and acrylics, enamel on copper, jewelry, woodburning and batiks.
My style is usually "outside" or a mix of abstract and surrealism. I use many different mediums and encourage the "accidental" aspect of my art. I often revert to a child like state when creating and I don't really think about what other people will care about it when creating. I am just trying to please my inner child. I love to drip and swril colors and besides using a brush I use tools and utensils and often use my fingers and hand to drip, splat, blend and apply colors. I often pick up and tilt the picture to encourage a drip. Most of my pictures contain a drip somewhere, I also usually put a thumb or finger print somewhere on all of my paintings. I then often go over them with acrylics to highlight or bring out a theme. I sometimes use clear or white caulk to build the pictures up and give a thickness and dimention to them. Occasionally I collage or cement objects to the picture.
I am obsessed with colors!!! Many brilliant and wonderful colors. I am an ordained minister and I feel a deeply spititual aspect in my work, sometimes playful, sometimes serious. I almost feel that when I am creating that God is blending the colors and He is just using me as an instrument.
